This investigation evaluates the effects of the right thalamic stimulation on the recall of dichotically presented verbal stimuli and compares them with previously reported results from the left thalamic stimulation. The stimulation of the centrum medianum nucleus was noted to have a facilitational effect on the verbal memory. A remarkably increased left ear effect following either left or right thalamic stimulation suggests that the ‘internal alerting response' for auditory transmission is diffusely represented in the bilateral thalamus. Support for this suggestion came when the unilateral thalamic stimulation was found to increase metabolic activity throughout the entire thalamus. |
