Using records of student experience in an undergraduate certificate in education course

Popis: The issue of student teacher profiling is complex and raises a number of important issues. This paper describes aspects of the development of two different models of student teacher profiles and their use with students who are taking the Undergraduate Certificate in Education (UGCE) course at the University of Bath concurrently with a sandwich degree course in Applied Biology. Both the models provide a record of the student's experience. The paper gives background information on the context of the developments, and describes the two models and the rationales for them. It describes the students’ responses to the profiles, and discusses some of the issues raised in the light of those responses. These issues are specifically concerned with: the importance of writing in the profiling process; the problematic nature of action‐planning; and the outcomes of the profiling process in terms of the students’ learning.
