Studies on the Dissociation Constants and Ion-Solvation in Aqueous Ethanol, Non-Aqueous Solvents and their Aqueous Mixtures of Some Benzocyclobuten-1 (2H) Ones

Popis: The pK'a values of five 4-hydroxybenzocyclobuten-1 (2H)ones (I) in aqueous ethanol, dioxane, acetonitrile and dimethylformamide have been determined. The Hammett parameter ρ varies for each phenolic ketone with the aqueous solvent composition, which reflects possible sensitivity to solvent polarity. The molar free energies of transfer of (I) from water to 20-60 wt % of organic solvent-water mixtures haven evaluated. The results so obtained, are explained by a structural theory of ion salvation.
