The last chapter provides a conclusion of the central findings of the study as well as an outlook to the organisations’ present set up and membership that feature prominent political and media personnel as well as the big American and German corporate players. Thus, crucial functions of the two organisations are summarised: acting as public diplomacy agents seeking to explain US and West German politics and policy to the respective other public and foreign policy elites; engaging in informal diplomacy, mediating and managing conflict, and rendering services as policy and public relations consultants. The chapter also highlights sustainable impact of the two organisations activities from the early 1950s to the mid-1970s such as forging a bipartisan foreign policy consensus in the Federal Republic. |
