Popis: The stochastic rocking of a rigid block due to shaking of its foundation is examined. The foundation is flexible (Winkler) and its independent springs and dashpots separate from the block base when tension is incipient. Modulated white noise is used as a model of horizontal acceleration of the foundation. The statistics of the rocking response are found by an analytical procedure which involves a combination of static condensation and stochastic linearization. The analytical solution is computationally efficient and compares well with pertinent data obtained by numerical simulations.
