Recent randomized clinical trials have reported an increased late mortality after percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) with second generation drug-eluted stents (DES) – those eluted with everolimus or zotarolimus – when compared to optimized clinical therapy or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Those increased late mortality has been related to cancer and chronic diseases. This study will be a systematic review and meta-analysis that aims to elucidate whether PCI raises or not late mortality, the cause of mortality and its relationship with the number of stents used, left ventricular function, age, sex, and number of vessels obstructed. |
