Objective: Assessing the incidence of metastatic lesions in the spine, diagnosis and staging. Materials and Methods: Patients with metastatic lesions in the spine, with single or double sites, and who could be subjected to surgical treatment were included in this study. Sixty-seven cases, cared for at the orthopedics outpatient clinic at the Hospital Santa Marcelina – Itaquera, were evaluated from July 2014 to July 2016. The variables analyzed were: sex, age, tumor site, number of lesions, neurological status, tumor type and the presence of fractures. Results: There were 34 men and 33 women in the study. The lumbar spine was the most afflicted, with L2 being the most impacted, followed by L1 and L3. Breast cancer, followed by prostate cancer, was the primary tumour that showed secondary implants in the column. The age average was 53 years. Forty-five patients had vertebral body fracture. In assessing neurological changes, we found alterations in18 patients and only 01 A Frankel. Conclusion: All the patients treated for primary tumors, who have axial pain or present fractured vertebrae, need to be well studied, including imaging of the entire spine, seeing that 40-50% of metastatic distance lesions affect the spine. |
