Synthetic spectra from rough surface scattering

Popis: We describe a method for designing a one-dimensional randomly rough surface that scatters light at a fixed angle of scattering with an intensity that depends in a prescribed way on the wavelength of a plane wave incident normally on it. Such a surface can synthesize the infrared spectrum of a known substance, and can be used for the identification of unknown substances by correlation spectroscopy.
