Popis: Increased observations of large-scale coral bleaching events have raised awareness of the vulnerability of coral reef ecosystems to the synergistic effects of natural and anthropogenic environmental changes. Such increased awareness has lead to subjective reporting of observed changes, but there has been a significant lack of objective monitoring of coral reef ecosystems on a repetitive basis. One limiting factor to remote detection and subsequent evaluation of the condition of coral reefs has been the lack of a quantitative means of identifying optically similar features such as healthy coral and macroalgae. Therefore, a field program was designed to collect reflectance data with a hand held hyperspectral radiometer to test the hypothesis that there is a difference in spectral reflectance characteristics of various coral reef features.
