Purpose: Metabolic syndrome (MS) constitiute a set of risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Prevalence of MS in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is variable between 19 to 87%. Relationship between MS and level of severity from OSA remains unclear. Aim: To describe prevalence of MS from patients with OSA and hypertension by OSA´s severity grade. Methods: Prospective study from patients>18 years old with OSA, who were derived from the evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors between 2015 and 2017 with diagnosis of hypertension. MS was definded by International Diabetes Federation (2009). Patients were gruped by severity: vsOSA: AHI≥60; sOSA: 60 Results: We analyzed 190 patients with hypertension; 9 of them with vsOSA, 44 sOSA, 46 mOSA, and 90 with mild OSA. Our findinds showed a significant increase in the body mass index and perimeter of waist from patientes with vsOSA compared with sOSA, mOSA and mild OSA (41.1±9.9 and 123.6±17.2 vs 35.5±7.7 and 118.8±17.6, 34.2±6.4 and 110.6±14.3, 33.2±7.1 and 105.8±13.6; p Conclusion: Prevalence of MS from hyerpensive patients with OSA was similar in all patientes independently of the severity grade of OSA in population analyzed. |
