Popis: In this paper we present some aspects of the TFS-3 fluxgate sensors offset evaluation. These sensors equip the space SG-R7 and SR-R8 magnetometers, the latter magnetometer being conceived especially for the INTERBALL experiments. The TFS-3 fluxgate sensors are Vacquier-Forster type sensors with improved parameters. A low field feedback winding (with the constant k′ equal to 1 64 from the main feedback constant k) was included in order to allow compensation of the very low magnetic fields, outside the magnetosphere. For measurements of low offset values (0–10 nT) a special electrical circuit and the flipper method were used. Offset values of several nT can be measured with a resolution of 0.25 nT. The conditions for the reproducible results are commented on. The offset measurements were performed with the sensor situated in a five layer permalloy P-80 shielding system with a shielding factor of 5 × 104 on the transversal direction. Three alternative methods (flipper method with and without magnetometric chain and characteristic transfer method) are presented and the relative merits of each are discussed in terms of offset evaluation. The flipper method and device allow the measurement of both the sensor offset and the remanent magnetic field inside the shielding cylinder, in urban magnetically polluted conditions.
