Historically, the teaching structure of schools was divided between special and general education programs. In this antiquated structure, students were grouped by ability levels, language, or special needs and separated into these areas for educational purposes (Spraker, 2003). These groupings effectively led to separate schools housed within one building, and teachers and students within this structure were separated by walls, curricula, and educational philosophies. In recent years, however, several movements have converged and school reform is at the forefront. |
