Popis: | Heterosexist bias occurs in both assessment and treatment of lesbian couples with substance abuse problems. This bias is often compounded by negative attitudes toward females who are chemically dependent and by lack of knowledge about lesbian relationships, substance abuse in women, and lesbian-affirming, family-centered practice. This paper addresses the "new psychology of women" and the concepts of "fusion" and "codependency" as they apply to the assessment of lesbian couples. In the area of treatment, the myth of "neutrality" and the inclusion of both family of origin and family of creation are addressed. A model that integrates traditional alcoholism treatment with family-centered therapy is proposed for work with lesbian couples. |
