What is the fundamental purpose of methods courses in political science, especially when methods courses are not offered? Methods courses teach a systematic way of thinking about complex political phenomenon, and this type of methodological thinking can be imparted in any political science course when no methods courses are offered. Students can learn methodological thinking as a tool to understand their complex political realities and to develop their own political power. When civic engagement or civically engaged research is added to these methodological skills, students are empowered with how to champion their interests and influence government actors throughout the policymaking process as well. |
