Popis: Hydro-methanolic extracts of delipidated seeds of three varieties of Cucumis melo L. and two varieties of Citrullus lanatus L. from Morocco were analyzed for the presence of bioactive secondary metabolites, to determine their abilities to scavenge 2,2-diphenyl -1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH.), 2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS•+) and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP). Phytochemical quantitative analysis was realized spectrophotometrically using standard methods. Phytochemical study reveals that steroids, polyterpenes, alkaloids, flavonoids, amino acids, proteins and carbohydrates were detected in all samples. Total phenolic content ranged from 16.74 to 239.2 mg GAE/g of extract and total flavonoid content varied from 5.26 to 180 mg RE/ g of extract, with the highest values recorded for 'Citrullus lanatus var. citroides'. Antioxidants assays were in correlation with TPC and TFC results. Citrullus lanatus var. citroides recorded the most potent values with IC50 values of 2.87 µg/mL for DPPH, and 345.69 µg/mL for ABTS. According to the FRAP assay, Cucumis melo var. reticulatus ‘Galia’ recorded the lowest value with an EC50 of 25.62 mg trolox equivalent / g of extract.
