Popis: | Lasers were included and used in the human in-vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratories for the first time as a new assisted reproduction technique (ART) more than a decade ago. Initially, lasers were found to be effective for the manipulation of spermatozoa and to create openings in the zona pellucida surrounding oocytes and embryos. These two basic principles have led to a variety of different applications in ART such as assisted hatching, laser-assisted biopsy, oocyte enucleation, laser-assisted ICSI, sperm immobilization, sperm viability testing and production of hemizonae. Some of the techniques are still in use, some have been abandoned and some are just evolving. This review will give an overview of the different applications in ART and their importance not only for clinical work but also for research. |
