Popis: Gravimetric, microscopic and micro-densitometric methods have been used at 64°C to study methanol diffusion through methyl methacrylate-dimethacryl ethylene glycol copolymers having differing crosslinking densities. The diffusion kinetics are of a two-stage type in all the copolymers. The second stage starts immediately from the moment at which the diffusional fronts meet and is due to a transition in to the highly elastic state of all the sample. The mechanism of the diffusional transfer (DT) changes in the first stage from that described by Fick's law to one tyoical for a second stage as the steric network becomes denser. The dependence of the rate of methanol diffusion on the amount of crosslinking agent present in the copolymer indicated a non-linear connection between these two parameters. The thickness of the sample subjected to swelling has been found to affect the DT type.
