The monitoring of the condition and the diagnostic of transformer units is a constant endeavor, continuously adapted to meet the demands of transport operators. The requirements for the achievement of integrated systems for the monitoring and diagnostic of transformer units are delivered through specifications and norms establishing a set of parameters and the conditions necessary for the monitoring and diagnostic, as well as the characteristics of the monitoring and diagnostic software. The aging of the oil-impregnated cellulose insulation and the loss of tensile strength are important factors limiting the lifespan of transformers. The system architecture is open, allowing specific configurations to be developed for each monitored transformer unit. The paper also shows the importance of improving the accuracy for identifying as early as possible the degradation of the cellulose insulation related to the transformer units, by integrating two chemical markers - methanol (MeOH) and 2 furaldehyde (2-FAL) into the structure of the monitoring systems, which can provide correlated information about the aging condition of the solid insulation in oil transformers. |
