The model calculates actual evapotranspiration from potential evapotranspiration, with leaf area, root development, and soil water as limiting factors. The evapotranspiration is divided into transpiration, evaporation from soil surface, and evaporation of intercepted precipitation in canopy. For the soil it calculates the actual soil water profile and soil water movement between different layers. The model works with a layered macrostructure of the soil-plant system. The canopy is treated as one layer, and the soil profile is divided into layers of 10 cm thickness. The climatic conditions of evaporation are characterized by daily precipitation and daily potential evapotranspiration. Measured leaf area index and root distribution are used as plant parameters. Precipitation is distributed in the canopy as well as the soil. Transpiration is calculated as the minimum value of the energy intercepted in the canopy and the accumulated product of root conductivity, soil water availability, and a maximum root extraction value. |
