We provide definitions of misclassification errors for different types of genomic data, as well as examples of how they may arise. We discuss statistical methods to detect misclassification errors, and several mathematical models that indicate the probability that one category of data (e.g., a SNP genotype) is misclassified as another category (e.g., another SNP genotype). Also, we comment on the difference between differential and non-differential misclassification and indicate the effects of each on population-based and family-based statistical tests of association. Finally, we present an example of genomic heterogeneity other than misclassification. |
