Popis: Ocean remote sensing has a 55-year long history in Russia counting from the first flight of Yuri Gagarin on Apr. 12, 1961. The article reviews a research done in the USSR and then in Russia in the field of ocean remote sensing in a dozen of research institutions. A review shows a history of remote sensing development and the obtained results in the receiving and analysis of optical and infrared data, microwave radiometry, radar sounding, and radar altimetry. A review is completed by a list of more than 300 publications sometimes unknown to western scientists.
