Radiation therapy plays a critical role in the treatment of uterine cancer, most commonly as adjuvant therapy but in some circumstances as definitive therapy. This chapter will briefly discuss the principles of radiation biology and how these principles are important when combining radiation with chemotherapy and other therapies. The critical literature guiding the use of radiation for both early stage and locally advanced uterine cancer will be discussed. The various forms of radiation delivery including 3D conformal radiation, intensity modulated radiation therapy, vaginal and intrauterine brachytherapy, and proton therapy will be explained. |
