Popis: The dynamics of mitral valve motion, particularly diastolic and final closure, is controversial. Cardiac mechanisms are held to be ventriculo- and/or atrio-genic; fluid mechanisms include theories based on vortices, decelerating flow, and papillary musclechordal restraint. We studied the problem in dogs with simultaneous measurement of mitral flow and echo and other hemodynamic parameters. Mathematical modelling provided new approaches and interesting insights.
