Popis:	This paper takes a critical look at the several new initiatives spurred by information technologies undertaken in institutions of higher education, argues that a technology centric approach can lead to wastage of resources, and advocates a knowledge-based approach to the reorganization and functioning of the university system. ‘Knowledge management’ has been in vogue in business circles for some time: this paper makes the case for knowledge management in institutions of higher education as well. A knowledge-based approach is best facilitated through the setting up of knowledge management centers in such institutions.
