Observations of mode I fatigue crack growth are presented for 316 stainless steel under combined thermal and mechanical loads, applied to a flat plate with coolmg along one or two edges. Experimental propagation rates obtained at different tempesatures are compared with isothermal crack growth data by usmg the range of strsm mtenslty factor. Steady mechanical end loads accelerate cracks, but arrest lS still observed under repeated downshocks, thereby preventing complete fracture of the plates |
