Popis: | A hypothetical case is presented of a man who requests counseling because he is bothered by his infidelity to his wife. The literature on moral development is then summarized in three aspects — intellectual, emotional, and behavioral development. Each aspect is reviewed so as to enable the counselor to assess the level of development of his client and identify the key aspects of the client's growth which are deficient. Strategies for assessing and treating these underdeveloped abilities are presented with respect to the hypothetical case. Implications for the moral development and dilemmas of the counselor are explored. Knowledge of moral development as presented in the literature is found to be inadequate, and a more theologically and spiritually open approach to counseling is encouraged. |
