Lower extremity deep vein thrombosis and its treatment

Popis: Materials and Melhods We treated 140 lower extremities with deep vein thrombosis in Seluk University, Faculty of Medicine, at the clinic of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery between 1983 and 1989. Age and type conditions, etiology, and symptoms have been analyzed. Ailment and diameter differences between these and normal lower extremities at physical inspection, temperatures and color changes, peripheral pulsation, loss of motility and sensibility, and Homans' sign have all been monitored. Blood and urine analyses have been made routinely. Except in 3 cases (2.1 07o) with surgical treatment (thrombectomy), bed rest, plus lower limb elevation, plus heparinization have been applied to 137 cases (97.907o). After application of absolute bed rest and lower limb elevation, great attention was paid to patients to meet all their needs in their own beds. Movements of their healthy lower extremities were urged, and sometimes they were advised to lie on their right or left side. In certain cases, decubitus ulcers were prevented by use of pneumatic beds and talcum powder applications to patients who rest for long periods. Anticoagulation treatment was begun by application of 20,000 units heparin IV per day. Dose was adjusted in such a way that bleeding clotting time
