Polymers of vinylphosphonic acid esters polymerized in the presence of Ziegler-Natta catalysts have been investigated by IR spectroscopy. The results show that the rate of polymerization is greatly influenced by the composition of a complex formed through the interaction of vinylphosphonic acid esters with the organoaluminium compound. In view of the displacement of PO groups valency vibrations it was surmised that a considerable amount of AlOP bonds remain in the polymer after dissolution of the catalyst by the alcohol. The presence of weak peaks of the CC bond (1615 and 1406 cm −1 ) in the polymer of the dichloroethyl vinylphosphonate, and the absence of these peaks in the other polymers points to a dehydrochlorination reaction taking place in presence of the complex catalyst. |
