Teaching management skills to first year engineering students

Popis: Managements skills are very important in the job market today. In this study, we present a course where these skills were introduced to first year engineering students of a university from Lima North, Peru. We also gathered the points of views of the students in regards with this couse. In this study a total of 30 students from the systems and industrial engineering programs participated. We introduced the students to concepts such as teamwork, time management, emotional intelligence, assertive communication, critical thinking and authentic leadership using the diamond framework of management skills. The Organization and Management course was organized in three parts and consisted of debates, working in groups and evaluations that all were carried out using the Zoom platform. In general terms the course was well received by the students and they indicated that they wanted to learn more skills (e.g., resilience, negotiation, storytelling).
