Popis: Surgical removal of vestibular schwannomas (VSs) has been performed routinely in most neurosurgical centers in the world. The goals of surgery are: no mortality, complete removal to achieve cure of this benign lesion, and preservation of the facial nerve and, in selected cases, functionally the cochlear nerve. However, in some occasions, total resection may be not possible even when the surgery is performed by the most experienced surgeon. If the tumor remnant is small the patients are followed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). When the remnant of tumor presents progressive growth they are usually treated by surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery with good results [1, 8, 14, 17]. Patients presenting on recurrence large tumors are rare because in most cases where the original tumor was subtotally removed, they are closely controlled with follow-up radiological examinations. Many series of small and medium-sized residual/ recurrent VSs have been reported in the literature [1, 14, 17 ,18]. Series dealing with large recurrent tumors cannot be found. The only treatment of these large lesions is surgical removal.
