Relationship among socioeconomic factors, distress, and quality of life (QOL) in cancer outpatients

Popis: 8127 Background:In 2002, a national survey to assess the socioeconomic status and distress of cancer patients using a semi-structured questionnaire was performed in Japan. To investigate relationships between patients' socioeconomic status and distress and their quality of life (QOL), the EORTC QLQ-C30 and the FACT-Sp were also given to patients in one institute, Saitama Cancer Center, and were analyzed two dimensionally. Methods:The impact of each item in the semi-structured questionnaire on the subscales of the QLQ-C30 and FACT-Sp was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multivariate regression analysis with adjustment for gender, age, and cancer type. Results:A total of 210 cancer patients who used our outpatient clinic for chemotherapy were asked to enroll in this study. Of these, 130 answered all three questionnaires (male: 42%; average age: 59 y; PSR 0/1/2-: 25/64/11%; Breast/Lung/Gastrointestinal cancer/Other: 38/22/21/19%).
