Summary A study of distribution equilibria of the 7-dodecenyl-substituted derivative of 8-quinolinol (Kelex 100) and its copper(II) chelate between chloroform and aqueous media containing aminopolycar☐ylic acids was carried out at 25° C and 0.1 M ionic strength (Na 2 SO 4 ) to examine possible limitations of the hypothesis of linear free energy relationship between the distribution constant and the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. Although the distribution constant, K DR = 10 5.52 , of the 7-dodecenyl-8-quinolinol was three orders of magnitude less than that predicted from that of the parent compound using correlation parameters, the distribution constant of its copper(II) chelate, 10 10.03 , was in good agreement with the value calculated on the basis of the K DR of the ligand. |
