Popis: | Several industrially manufactured low molecular weight (LMW) synthetic resins have been investigated for their potential use in picture varnishes. The resins were examined by infrared (IR) spectrometry, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Refractive indices (RI) were also determined. The stability of films of the resins was tested during accelerated aging in a xenon arc fadeometer and evaluated by means of ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and IR spectrometry and solubility measurements. The effects of the hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) Tinuvin 292 on the aging of these resins and the ketone resin Laropal K80, the reduced ketone resin MS2A, and a chemically modified ketone resin (ketone-ester) were determined. Most of the new products investigated are considerably more stable than both natural and ketone resins and would, when stabilized with HALS, show considerable longevity even in an environment containing UV light. MS2A and the ketone-ester can a... |
