Popis: | Metallurgical grade calcium cyanide is produced by the black cyanide process. In this process, calcium cyanamide which contains free carbon is fused with sodium chloride and a small amount of calcium carbide in an arc furnace to form calcium cyanide according to the following overall reactionCaCN2 + CNaCl = Ca(CN)2 Despite considerable research, the actual reaction mechanism and the thermodynamics of the process are still not completely understood. In the present research, equilibrium experiments were performed at various temperatures and the standard free energy of the formation of calcium cyanide from calcium cyanamide and carbon was determined to beΔG° = 117.6 – 0.0929 T (kJ/mole) 1400 K < T |
