Popis: Larvae of the Hessian fly, Mayetiola destructor (Say), that were allowed to feed for 2—48 h after they were placed as 1st instars on susceptible wheat seedlings, did not cause significant stunting or reduction in leaf growth. Similar larvae allowed to feed for 72 h caused a small degree of stunting of the 2nd and 3rd leaf of the plants, and larvae that fed for 96—120 h caused a greater degree of stunting. Permanent stunting occurred when the larvae fed for 144 h.
