Popis: | Spatial planning in Senegal faces enormous difficulties due to the strong urban growth. It is often associated with problems of management of urban and peri-urban space. This translates into rapid urbanization without planning, giving rise in most cities to the occupation of areas unfit for habitation. The city of Ziguinchor is experiencing population growth with an urbanization rate of 51.1% which is above the national average which is around 47.5%. This demographic growth has led to an unceasing demand for housing for low-income strata, thus causing the development of precarious housing in informal or non-regulatory districts of the municipality of Ziguinchor. This study, essentially based on quantitative and qualitative data, aims to study the socio-demographic structure and the architectural characteristics of the informal districts of the city of Ziguinchor. The results first showed that 60% of household heads have migrated to these informal neighborhoods and that 55% cite the Casamance crisis as a reason for their migration. In addition, 47% are without formal education, 36% have primary education and 64% are active in the resourceful or informal economy; then, it allowed to see the architectural characteristics which shows that 80% of the occupants are without official acts, 70% proceeded by assisted self-construction and 70% of the houses were built in a mixed way with mud houses (poto- poto) often coated with cement; and finally, the study shows the consequences of informal housing in the development of the city of Ziguinchor.
