Laboratory feeding tests were carried out to test the efficacy of five rodenticides against Arvicanthis niloticus (Desmarest). The poisons (warfarin, coumatetralyl, chlorophacinone, difenacoum and calciferol) were all toxic at concentrations recommended for the control of Rattus norvegicus (Berk.) in the United Kingdom, and no significant unpalatability was found in any compound. It is likely that all the rodenticides, if used in suitable bait formulations, will be very effective as practical control agents, but field trials are now needed to demonstrate this and to determine which of them, if any, are superior to the others. |
