Popis: The objective of this study was to characterize the bone structures of the femoral head and the cortical and trabecular regions, using two-dimensional images produced by x-ray microfluorescence, which supplies information about the superficial distribution of minerals. The measurements were performed in the standard geometry with 45 incidence, and excitation with a white beam and an optical capillary with 20 µm diameter collimation in the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) beam line at the Synchrotron Light National Laboratory (Campinas, Brazil). The results show that both the concentration and the distribution of the minerals vary significantly among the groups, mostly in relation to the element calcium, depending on the location and bone site.
