Chitosan is a naturally abundant derived polymer of chitin. It has widespread application due to the presence of highly reactive functional groups on its polysaccharide chain. Chitosan-based interpenetrating polymer networks, gels, blends, composites, and nanocomposites are the most commonly used forms. Each of the forms has different types of processing techniques. Depending upon the techniques, the properties of the final product can be varied by a significant measure. This chapter describes several processing and characterization techniques for each of the chitosan forms. |
