Popis: The critical current as a function of temperature has been measured in fiber spun YBCO superconducting rods down to 4K. The critical current obeys the T2 rule to within the experimental error. The thermal behavior is used to predict the current carrying capacity of an assembly of such rods at various temperatures and magnetic fields. The I-V characteristic near the critical current is used to predict the thermal run-away behavior of a current lead constructed from such rods.
