Popis: | Current clinical management of the patient with cancer involves a multidisciplinary approach which utilizes the resources of surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and includes last but not least, supportive management. It is often not realised how much demand is made upon the individual by the various intensive treatments we employ to treat neoplastic disease. Supportive therapy encompasses a number of in-patient aspects of management, which may not only have the capacity to improve the general well-being of the patient but can also boost host resilience so as to enable standard, though demanding, forms of treatment to be undertaken. Where one is dealing with palliation of advanced terminal cancer, supportive therapy takes paramount place in alleviating suffering and allowing the patient to lead as comfortable an existence as possible. |
