Popis: Research on Long Term Evolution (LTE) network planning continues to grow. The first important goal is to maximize the total covered traffic. For this, the decision maker must install a sufficient number of base stations (BSs) to guarantee this coverage. However, the increase in the price of energy, as well as the environmental and health concerns, are pushing to focus on minimizing the energy consumption of these networks and, consequently, the number of installed base stations. We therefore have two contradictory optimization problems: (i) to maximize the total covered traffic and (ii) to minimize the number of active base stations to reduce energy consumption. This paper introduces, first, a mathematical modeling for this multi-objective problem. Second, it proposes to use switching on-off strategy based on genetic algorithm method to solve the NP-hard problem. The obtained results show the efficiency of our model to reduce CO 2 emissions while guaranteeing a good coverage of the network.
