This paper focuses on the debate over the education of women in Chile during the 19th. C in the context of the conflicts between the Catholic Church and the State for the control of the republican public space. The hypothesis is that there were no major differences between liberals and clericals regarding gender policies. Their disputes originated, on the part of the State, to avoid women’s defense of ecclesiastical policies. On the part of the Church, its main concern was to preserve women as its bulwark for the Catholicity of the nation. It was a problem of power. The text addresses important polemics on the subject in order to illustrate the hypothesis. |
