Starting in 1978 in Polotsk, his field activities took place in the Crimea, Moldova, on Taman and the Kola Peninsula, in Siberia. There were found sanctuaries with extensive ceramics and anthropomorphic idols. In 2013—2021, O. V. Sharov was an active participant in large-scale rescue archaeological research that unfolded in Taman and in the Crimea.
