The gel test is born in 1984. Its evolution can be described in three steps: development of a marketable product by the Diamed company improvement of this product, and development of new products based on the same process by competitors. Its main application is the antiglobulin test applied to antibody detection and identification, for which results are more reliable with this test, especially in routine. It can also be used in blood grouping, mainly for specific needs. Other applications are still being developed. Finally, the gel test has contributed to a change in practice at the immunohematological laboratory and has opened the door to further new technologies. |
