Nursing care according to the Neuman systems model in a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis due to type 1 diabetes mellitus

Popis: One of the most common endocrine diseases in children is Type 1Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Type 1 DM is seen due to insulopenia andhyperglycemia as a result of damage to beta cells of the pancreasunder the influence of genetic and environmental factors. The mostimportant complication is ketoacidosis, which is the cause of mortality-morbidity. In diabetes management, complications can be delayedwith appropriate nutrition, physical activity, daily insulin therapy, bloodglucose monitoring, follow-up of complications, lifestyle changes. Inpediatric patients, especially adolescent, being independent, self-actualization, a sense of control, hiding the disease by thinking that theyare different make chronic disease management difficult. It is thoughtthat by applying holistic care to the patient with systematic nursing careand model use, it will be beneficial for the patient to manage diabetes,develop coping mechanisms. In this article, the use of the NeumanSystems Model in the nursing care of an adolescent child diagnosed with Type 1 DM with ketoacidosis is explained.
