Popis: |
Nicotine normalizes several physiological abnormalities found in schizophrenia, including a deficit in the inhibitory gating of the P50 evoked response to repeated auditory stimuli. Animal models suggest the involvement of α7 nicotinic receptor subunits on hippocampal interneurons. The deficit is distributed in the families of schizophrenics in a pattern consistent with autosomal dominant transmission, and there is some evidence suggestive of linkage at the chromosomal locus of the α7 gene. |
