Popis: | A 2 × 3 factorial experiment involving 108 crossbred pigs (9 kg) was conducted to evaluate the effects of endosperm starch type (waxy vs. normal) and tannin concentration in dietary grain sorghum on performance of young pigs. Grain from six F 8 F 9 sorghum breeding sub-lines, which were selected as isolines for two starch types, waxy or normal, within each of three tannin levels, high, medium or low, were used. The endosperm starch type of the grain had no influence on pigs' daily weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, or daily feed intake. Tannin content of grain sorghum detrimentally influenced daily gain and feed conversion efficiency, but not daily feed intake. Thus tannin level, but not endosperm starch type, was found to influence the feeding value of grain sorghum for young pigs. |
