The conversion rate of sulphur dioxide dissolved in cloud and rainwater is largely influenced by hydrogen peroxide. This conversion was studied using two approaches: a. wash-out experiments under the plumes of a coal-fired power plant b. aircraft measurements in the plumes originating from industrial areas. At a distance of about ten kilometers from the power station distinct relationships have been found between sulphur-containing compounds and hydrogen peroxide in the aqueous phase. At larger distances from sources the conversion of sulphur dioxide into sulphate by hydrogen peroxide in the aqueous phase can be studied using an aircraft. |
