Popis: This paper describes spectral measurements of several-tens-MeV neutrons and associated gamma rays transmitted through iron, lead and graphite shields. Monte Carlo calculations by MORSE with the DLC-87 HILO multigroup cross sections reproduced the measured data well for the graphite shield, but gave partly higher values at energies 15–25 MeV for the iron shield, and overpredicted the lead transmitted spectra above 15 MeV. Gamma-ray spectra obtained behind the graphite shield were well explained by the transmission of source gamma rays from the Cu target through the shield. However the measured photon spectra for the iron and lead shields were much higher than those of transmitted source photons. The discrepancies were not explained even by including neutron induced gamma rays caused by neutrons up to 15 MeV.
